I think that the destination that stands out for me is Myanmar. I spent a week cruising down the Irrawaddy River. Wherever our boat stopped, the crew jumped ashore and built a landing stage to allow us to disembark - there were no formal 'docks' to moor at! Meeting the local families in their villages and understanding their way of life was very humbling. The children were very friendly, welcomed us into their schools and loved to sing to us. I came away with fantastic memories of a place still relatively untouched by Western influences.
Allow plenty of time to check the clothing provided by the cruise line and place your order as required, there is usually a cut-off point.
This also allows you time to research and purchase any additional items.
Years in travel: About 40 years

First job in travel: I joined a local family run independent travel agency

Best cruise dining experience: Sitting at the Sushi Bar in Silk Road on Crystal Serenity and watching the chefs create a fantastic meal for us!
Best non-cruise holiday: I had to agree to my daughter making all the arrangements when we joined her in India for 2 weeks during her gap year travels. She put together a fantastic itinerary, the most memorable part was a camel safari into the desert just for the four of us! We enjoyed a BBQ cooked by the camel chief and were then joined by local goat herders and together they sang Indian love songs around the fire. Then, we slept under the stars, a wonderful experience and one I will never forget!
Interesting fact about yourself: I conquered my very real fears and took a tandem paragliding trip from the top of Mount Babadag and landed on the beach in Olu Deniz, Turkey. I loved it, but never again!
