My favourite destination
The plight of the polar bear, with dwindling numbers and growing challenges as the sea ice recedes, is well recorded.
So it feels all the more extraordinary to actually see one when exploring the vast wilderness of the Spitsbergen archipelago. In fact we saw not one, but five. It was a magical experience, and you have to do it.
My top cruising tip
My top tip is to spend as much time outside as possible so as not to miss anything.
The secret is layers - as many as possible, even if you end up looking like the Michelin man.
