My favourite destination has to be my 2017 expedition cruise on board Silversea's Silver Discoverer, around Indonesia and the Kimberley region in Australia. We began with an introduction to the culture, folklore and traditions of Indonesia, exploring the islands of Bali, Sumba and Savu. We were able to visit traditional homesteads, learn how the locals make Ikat textiles and watch the 'Pasola', a fierce martial arts performance on horseback!
One of the highlights of the voyage was travelling to Komodo Island, where we witnessed the fearsome Komodo dragons in their natural habitat. We were given a great tour of the park, where the guides shared their knowledge and stories of these powerful six foot lizards.
However, the highlight of our entire trip was the King George River, where our zodiac driver, Jamie, drove us close to the action of the river's thunderous waterfall, which then engulfed us all in the foam from the crashing water - perfect for thrill-seekers! A truly once-in-a-lifetime trip to a destination that should definitely be on everyone's bucket list
Explore Australia and the Kimberley
I would encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and seize any opportunity to try something different to the norm.
Whether its food related, a physical challenge or stepping into the unknown, be bold and you'll likely enrich your holiday experience. More often than not it's these spur-of-the-moment decisions that lead to those amazing travel stories that you tell people for years to come, and memories that will last a lifetime.
I would still recommend that you do a bit of research beforehand though, just so you have an idea of what you're letting yourself in for!
