My favourite adventure

The staggering beauty of Antarctica is difficult to put into words. The scale of the landscape is amazing and the remoteness is accentuated by its strangeness. It really does feel like another planet.

Penguins waddled past unafraid of our presence, whales surfaced in a mirror calm bay, a dreamlike sunset was perfectly reflected in the ocean and we witnessed leopard seals hunting in the shallows. The trip was extraordinary and everyday seemed to offer something even more delightful than the last.

My top adventure tip

Make the most of the expedition staff. Having experts onboard who have travelled the area and have a particular expertise gives an amazing insight and can mean a much more interesting trip.

Go to the all the lectures, even the ones that might not at first appeal and you'll learn more about the destination and gain a better understanding of the area you're in.
